Mr. Gardner’s Leadership class at Everett Middle School took a field trip to 826 Valencia on Wednesday to kick off the spring semester of the Straight-up News, and we were thrilled to host them!
These seventh and eighth graders will produce the spring issue of the newspaper, which has been written by and for Everett students since 2003. Every Wednesday from now until the end of the school year, Mr. Gardner’s class will meet with their 826 Valencia tutors in the Writers’ Room in the Everett library to research, write, and edit their articles before the spring deadline. During their visit to 826, students learned a little more about the production of the paper and had a chat with longtime 826 volunteer and journalist Mark de la Viña, who walked them through the process of identifying news and reporting it responsibly. We can’t wait to see what our new journalists write about!
