Slick is here! On Friday, February 1, last semester’s Slick journalists, tutors, teachers, families, and friends packed the James Lick Writers’ Room to celebrate the latest issue. Students took to the podium to read their pieces. This issue of the magazine features articles about free running, haunted antiques, James Lick’s dress code, the Golden Gate Bridge, Tupac’s “alleged” death, football brain injuries, steroid use in sports, SkyMall, and so much more.
The journalists are eighth graders in Ms. Demirjian’s Peer Resources class at James Lick. Slick is an excellent source of information on far-ranging subjects that are relevant and interesting to middle-schoolers everywhere. Copies are available for sale at the Pirate Supply Store. Here’s a snippet from Katherine Eloenia Gurdian’s article “Athletics and Grades” to excite the young journalist in you!
“And even though sports can make it hard to find time to study, playing sports causes you to develop skills that can help you in your adult life. Sports can make you a good teammate, someone who helps others and works well as part of a team.”
