Gramarama and the Punctuation Party

On Sunday, April 15, the 826 Valencia writing lab was once again taken over by a collection of eager students! Grammar-ama & the Punctuation Party was a one-time workshop taught by Sondra Hall and Naomi Goldner of “Take My Word For It.”

With surprise visitors from another planet, Zib and Zeb, the students in our workshop labored extremely hard to teach these aliens all they knew about grammar. At first, our alien friends were having a hard time telling the difference between a verb and a noun, but with a little help and instruction from our students, Zib and Zeb were speaking human in no time! Overall, students were able to brush up on their writing mechanics, understand the importance of grammar, and do a tongue-twisting punctuation activity based on the book Eats, Shoots, and, Leaves.

Sondra Hall is the founder and director of “Take my Word for it.” The program offers after-school and community-based creative writing classes and in-school writing residencies for kids in San Francisco and the East Bay. Their aim is to encourage students to get to know themselves as authors in a safe, supportive environment and to get excited about the written word! To find out more go to takemywordforit.net.
