What do the elasmasaurus, yard-long beards, and a former 826 Valencia intern all have in common? Probably a lot more than you’d guess. But for starters, they all appeared in The Dinosaur Hunters, a new musical for kids performed at 826 Valencia last Thursday.
On July 21, a small group of students arrived in the writing lab for our weekly Story Time workshop. However, instead of the regular picture books and construction paper, they were greeted with an exhilarating tale of science, fossils, and of course, silly facial hair. The Dinosaur Hunters tells the story of rival paleontologists O.C. Marsh and E.D. Cope, who raced across America to discover fossils in the late 19th century.
Yale students Jacob Paul, Raphael Shapiro, Mark Sonnenblick, and former intern Brendan Ternus wrote and starred in this fabulous musical, which they describe as “the true story of two bitter rivals and their quest for fossils around the American frontier.” The four actors are touring the West Coast this summer, bringing a dose of history and fun to hundreds of lucky kids. We’re delighted that Brendan and his talented friends could bring their masterpiece to 826!
