Graphic Design applications accepted on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. The Winter/Spring 2015 intern track will commence in January 2015. Please keep us in mind for your internship opportunities!
Design Internships
Though unpaid, this internship with a nationally recognized nonprofit will provide invaluable, on-the-ground design experience. Design interns will work closely with 826 Valencia’s Design Director, María Inés Montes, to create flyers, newsletters, event and marketing materials, student publications, and more. 826 Valencia is a vibrant work environment, bustling with staff, interns, students, and volunteers. Our design staff is incredibly supportive and willing to teach and assist. By the end of the internship, designers will have gained skills in both design and navigating a professional environment, and insight into nonprofit work environments.
Requirements:
- Minimum commitment of 24 hours per week for at least a semester (spring, summer, or fall)
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (or previous CS): InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Knowledge of web-based software is a plus

Educational Programs Internship
In the educational programs track, you will focus on direct student programs, working with students, developing lesson plans, helping out in the process of publishing our students’ writing, and assisting programs staff in the ins and outs of organizing programs and scheduling volunteers.
Requirements:
- Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for the duration of the season
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
- Experience with kids in a professional setting is a plus
- Editing/proofreading experience preferred
- Spanish language skills are desirable
- Experience with design software is a plus!
Nonprofit Management Internship (fundraising, events, communications, Pirate Supply Store, and more)
In the nonprofit management track, you will gain experience in all the behind-the-scenes aspects of running a nonprofit. You’ll learn about fundraising, publicity, events, writing copy, sales, and volunteer management. This could be the perfect internship if you’re interested in working in nonprofits. If you are excited to focus on events/communications, fundraising/development, or pirate store/sales, please indicate your preference and why in your cover letter.

- Highly organized
- Excited about 826 Valencia’s mission
- Attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Strong writing and editing skills a plus
