We would like to congratulate our January Teacher of the Month, Andres Tobar of Marshall Elementary School in San Francisco. Mr. Tobar teaches kindergarten at Marshall Elementary, and has taught at Marshall for the past fifteen years. Mr. Tobar has provided a nurturing and uplifting atmosphere in the classroom, he attends all after-school events and PTA meetings, leads morning assemblies, and brings treats in for staff members’ birthdays. His ardent dedication to both his students and school community is truly inspiring.
Parents of Mr. Tobar’s current and former students have praised his dedication and teaching style in their letters of nomination. Callen Taylor, a teacher coach for the SFUSD, says, “My son loves going to Mr. Tobar’s class because he makes learning fun and everyone feels valued.”
“Mr. Tobar is an absolutely amazing teacher. He is fantastic with the parents and the kids,” writes Melanie Garcia, parent of Kylee Garcia. “He should definitely be teacher of the decade!”
Parents of current students describe Mr. Tobar’s teaching style as “unique.” One parent writes in, “El Sr. Tovar tiene una forma de enseñar unica, tiene mucha creatividad y mucha disciplana.” (Mr. Tobar has a unique way of teaching; he has a lot of creativity and a lot of discipline).
Along with his unique methodology of teaching, Mr. Tobar fully embraces a pedagogical approach to helping his students learn. “Hablar del maestro Tobar es de hablar de excelencia porque el habla con los niños de cultura. A los tres meses los niños en kindegarden ya saben leer.” (To speak on behalf of Mr. Tobar is to speak of excellence because he engages students around themes of culture. Students in his kindergarten class are able to read three months into the semester.)
It’s clear that Mr. Tobar is an exemplary educator, and we are honored to celebrate his great work by awarding him a certificate and $1500 to spend as he desires.
