Check out Your Store in the window display!

Your Store in the Pirate WindowThis April and May, the Pirate Store will be hosting Your Store in our window display. Your Store is an art project developed by Kathryn Kenworth and Sarah Klein who, over the course of a year visited the Mission district and documented the community by collecting people’s stories, thoughts, loves, concerns and memories about the place where they live. With the help of our students, these stories are transformed into sculptural objects and hand-drawn stop-motion animations.

The first Your Store was shown in the window of Artist Telvision Access in 2013 featuring the animations of our workshop students and now Your Store will re-open this April at 826 Valencia. The project will expand by featuring some of the most popular topics of conversation with displays that change during the run of the show and highlight specific themes of change, concern and appreciation. This past quarter, students met and created cardboard responses to these burgeoning topics.

Please visit and question and continue the story with Your Store as they give the neighborhood a unique chance to reflect on the people and places that make up this dynamic area.
