826 Valencia is recruiting an AmeriCorps VISTA member for the 2014-2015 year! AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
826 Valencia Volunteer Engagement Assistant
The Volunteer Engagement Assistant will increase 826 Valencia’s capacity to serve under-resourced students in San Francisco by assisting with database management and volunteer screening, supporting volunteer trainings and orientations, expanding and diversifying our volunteer base, and assisting with the organization of volunteer events. This entry-level one-year position is a unique opportunity to learn about managing volunteers at an innovative nonprofit organization.
A successful candidate will be extremely organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic about 826 Valencia’s mission, a talented communicator, and very detail-oriented. Experience with volunteer coordination and/or 826 Valencia’s programs preferred. A passion for education and a strong sense of social justice are essential. Candidates with Spanish-language skills will be given priority. The person who takes on this position can expect to gain experience and practical skills on how to run and manage a volunteer program for a mid-size educational nonprofit, and will be supported and trained in how to use and manage the organization’s Mailchimp account, an email campaign program and Salesforce, a volunteer database program. The VISTA will work at our site on Valencia Street (826 Valencia, San Francisco, CA 94110) and will be supervised by the Volunteer and Intern Engagement Manager.
