826 Valencia is recruiting an AmeriCorps VISTA member for the 2014-2015 year! AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
The Development Assistant will increase 826 Valencia’s capacity to serve under-resourced students in San Francisco by assisting with grant-writing and research, donor database management, acknowledgements, and fundraising events. This one-year position is a unique opportunity to learn about development at an innovative nonprofit organization.
A successful candidate will be extremely organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic about 826 Valencia’s mission, a talented communicator, and very detail-oriented. Experience in nonprofit development and grant-writing and/or 826 Valencia’s programs preferred. A passion for education, and a strong sense of social justice are essential. Candidates with Spanish-language skills, media contacts, and computer skills (including experience with email programs such as Mailchimp and databases such as Salesforce) will be given priority. The VISTA will work at our site on Valencia Street (826 Valencia, San Francisco, CA 94110) and will be supervised by the Director of Development and Grants Director.
