A three-week workshop

January 25 - February 8

In this workshop, you'll take the stories of people you know, (or are about to know) and turn them into different types of writing. You'll discover how to listen carefully to other people's stories, and learn different ways to share those stories with others. We'll read examples of oral histories, ranging from staged drama, video, photo collage and other forms of narrative, to unlock certain patterns and techniques. Then you'll practice your interviewing skills to prep for the big project: meeting with somebody in your family or in your community, and transforming that interview into a monologue, play, video, photo journal, or short story. The possibilities are as numerous as the people you can speak with!

En este taller, tomarás historias de gente que conoces (o que conocerás) y las convertirás en diferentes tipos de texto. Descubrirás cómo escuchar atentamente las historias de otras personas, y aprenderás diferentes maneras de compartir esas historias con otros. Leeremos ejemplos de historias orales, desde teatro, vídeo, fotocollage y otras formas de narrativa, para desentrañar ciertos patrones y técnicas. Después, practicarás tu habilidad para las entrevistas para prepararte para el gran proyecto: conocer a alguien de tu familia o tu comunidad, y transformar esa entrevista en un monólogo, una representación teatral, un vídeo, diario fotográfico, o un relato corto. ¡Las posibilidades son tan numerosas como la gente con la que puedes llegar a hablar!
