Are you overwhelmed by the flood of information online? Inspired by the ideas and methods of Net Smart (2012), a book by social media pioneer Howard Rheingold, this workshop equips high school-age students with the attentive, research, and social literacies to navigate effectively through the emerging digital terrain of our increasingly-networked world. Students will learn mindfulness to hone attention, information filtering to make best use of web sources to produce scholarly work, and social media networking skills to be a responsible digital citizen. Each student will produce a research article on recent developments in technology using the tools of digital literacy taught over the course of this workshop. By the workshop's end, students will be prepared to thrive throughout high school, college and beyond!
