First day of Young Authors' Workshop

826 Valencia is hosting our ninth annual free young authors' workshop! From August August 1st to August 5th, students will team up with professional writers, poets, and spoken word artists to develop their writing skills. Workshop participants will help design a book and poster of their work and have the opportunity to be published in the Fall 2011 issue of the 826 Quarterly.

The schedule each day will be from 10 AM to 5 PM, including a lunch break.
Students who sign up are required to attend all daytime sessions, each day of this week-long camp. Throughout the week there will be optional group evening activities. On Friday we will celebrate student work with an evening reading.

Guest speakers for the 2011 workshop will be announced shortly. Guest speakers in past years have included Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers, Valetino Achak Deng, Daisy Hernández, Stephen Elliott, Spike Jonze, Hilton Als, Thao Nguyen, Leticia Hernandez.

All applications must include a 500-word essay detailing the student's interest in writing. The essay, and your contact information (name, age, phone number, address, and where you go to school) must be submitted to 826workshops@gmail.com by June 20 to be considered.
