Spelling Bee for Cheaters

Daniel Handler, Lisa Brown, and Shivani Ray look on in profound concentration at 2011’s Spelling Bee for Cheaters

What do two adults dressed like bumble bees, one mustache made of bacon, a vat of homemade chili, and the creators of Portlandia Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen all have in common?

They’re all players in past 826 fundraisers, that’s what. While the pirate supply trade is a fairly profitable business, we still need to raise outside funds to pay for our many, always-free programs. Our particular brand of fundraiser has seen proms, parties, comedy nights, concerts, writing workshops, do-it-yourself ice sculpting parties, chili cook-offs, thumbwrestling competitions, fundraising lunches, mustache-a-thons, a gala and a spelling bee. Critical funding is raised, folks learn about the important work we do here at 826, and fun is had by all. You are cordially invited to browse our calendar and find an upcoming event that’s right for you.
